Petition in LHC seeks contempt case against Ahsan Iqbal
LAHORE: A petition seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Ahsan Iqbal over his recent ‘anti-judiciary remarks’ was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The petition states the former interior minister’s recent statement on the suspension of former premier Nawaz Sharif’s jail sentence falls within the ambit of the contempt of court.
It says a bench of the high court had earlier discharged a contempt of court notice against the former federal minister while instructing him to remain cautious in this regard in future. However, he ignored its instruction.
The petition pleads the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the PML-N leader.
Earlier this month, a Lahore High Court full bench had discharged a contempt of court notice issued to Ahsan Iqbal over an anti-judiciary speech after accepting his apology
Ahsan Iqbal had tendered an unconditional apology in the contempt of court case on July 2.
In that plea, the petitioner had submitted to the court that Iqbal had used derogatory remarks against the Supreme Court judges on April 25 and the same was aired by private TV channels.
He pleaded that contempt proceedings should be initiated against the minister.
