Clayton Kershaw leads Dodgers past Astros in Game 1 of World Series

• Dodgers ace strikes out 11 to spirit Los Angeles to 3-1 win over Houston

• Game-time temperature of 103F was likely hottest in World Series history

Justin Turner hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 3-1 win against the Houston Astros in the first game of the 2017 World Series on Tuesday night in front of 54,253 at Dodger Stadium.

Left-hander Clayton Kershaw earned the victory in his first World Series start. Kershaw, the three-time winner of the National League’s Cy Young Award and its 2014 Most Valuable Player, amassed 11 strikeouts, scattered three hits, conceded no walks and permitted just one run in seven innings. Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth with one strikeout for the save.
