KMC decides to raze more 1,995 illegally constructed shops in the city

KARACHI: The Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday decided to demolish more illegally built structures in the city, ARY News reported.

The Supreme Court on Oct 27 ordered to remove illegally built structures in the metropolis.

In this regard, the KMC has chalked out a plan to raze as many as 1,995 shops in the city and has also served notices to the said shopkeepers.

According to a report submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, 703 shops will be demolished in the area of city’s Lee Market.

447 shops in Jubilee Cloth Market, 148 shops in Bahauddin Shah Market, 137 shops in Madina Cloth Market will be razed.

Meanwhile, at least 108 shops of Taj Mahal Market and 180 shopkeepers of Aurangzeb Market have been served notices regarding razing of their illegal structures.

On March 19, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) authorities had removed encroachments in city’s Liaquatabad and FC Area while around 10 shops were demolished which were established illegal under a high tension line.

Illegal shops and factories established on footpaths and green belt were razed by heavy machinery amid tight security.

A KMC anti-encroachment team had also commenced operation in Kharadar neighbourhood where several cabins, vending stalls and junk cars have been seized by the administration.
