Plea seeking disqualification of Saeed Ghani filed in SC

ISLAMABAD: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday seeking lifetime disqualification of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Saeed Ghani for ‘contempt of court’, ARY News reported.

The petition was filed by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi.

According to the petition, Ghani committed contempt of court in his statements on the print and electronic media. He said a contempt inquiry should be initiated against the PPP leader under Article-204 and he should be declared ineligible for life from contesting elections.

Saeed Ghani, who is the Sindh Minister for Local Bodies, on Monday said that demolition of residential buildings, where thousands of people were living, was not possible.

He was giving a statement in response to the court orders for razing such buildings in the city.

The minister said that if the provincial government was forced to demolish the residential buildings, they would excuse from the court from complying with its orders in the greater interest of the masses.

He said that the Sindh government would not take such steps which create human crises in the city and added that the government needed years to change the face of the city.

Earlier, Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, on January 25,had said that he would prefer to resign rather than take down residential places in Karachi.
