Sindh govt cancels declaration of 64 fake newspapers, magazines

KARACHI: Sindh government on Tuesday cancelled declarations of at least 64 dummy publications publishing in the province, ARY News reported.

As ARY News’ Zimmedar Kaun team led by Kamil Arif raided and exposed dummy newspapers and magazines in their February 11 show, the Sindh government cancelled the declaration of 64 such publications.

The raids conducted by ARY News journalist Kamil Arif also revealed that these groups employed hundreds of fake reporters and journalists who earned for themselves and their dummy publications by extorting businessmen.

The dummy publications seldom got published or reach the newspapers stall but kept on getting advertising revenue from federal and provincial governments.

The raid also revealed that most of such publications never reached the stall while others went into print only on the days when they received an advertisement from the government.

It is pertinent to note here that Advisor to the Chief Minister Sindh on Information and Law Murtaza Wahab had met a delegation of journalists on Monday.

The CM’s adviser also said that, in the past, dummy newspapers were also given advertisements but now the Sindh government will blacklist these newspapers and distribution of advertisements will be transparent.
