Car used in Qandeel’s murder belonged to Mufti Qavi’s cousin

MULTAN: The car used in the murder of social media star Qandeel Baloch belonged Mufti Abdul Qavi’s cousin, police officials said on Thursday.

According to police, revelations were made during the suspect’s 13-day physical remand. During the investigation, Mufti Qavi also confessed that the owner [Muhammad Nawaz] of the house where Qandeel was killed, is a close friend and relative while the driver [Abdul Basit] was also a friend. Basit allegedly drove the main suspects, Waseem and Haq Nawaz, to Multan from Dera Ghazi Khan and back after the murder.

Police said Muhammad Nawaz had forced Qandeel’s parents for reconciliation after taking a huge amount of money.

The superintendent police of Cantt Dr Fahad said other people mentioned by Mufti Qavi during the interrogation will also be brought in for questioning, adding that the police had requested the court to extend the demand to 14 more days.

The accused was initially taken to District Jail in Multan where prime suspects, Waseem and Haq Nawaz are also in custody before being shifted to Central Jail owing to potential threats.

Qandeel was strangled to death by her brother Muhammad Waseem and cousin Haq Nawaz in the name of ‘honour’ in July last year, weeks after posting selfies with Qavi on social media. Waseem, who had confessed to his crime, was produced in the court along with Nawaz on Monday. Azeem, Qandeel’s father, was also present during the hearing.

Qavi was arrested last week after a court rejected an extension to his pre-arrest bail.
