Woman detained for throwing bangles at Indian PM Modi’s face

A woman was arrested for throwing bangles at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face during his road show in Vadodara, Gujarat on Sunday.

A viral video shows the activist, Chandrika Solanki, the president of Contract and Fixed Salary Struggles Committee women wing and affiliated with the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), leading a protest and throwing bangles at Modi when his car passed the VUDA circle, Daily Bhaskar reported.

She was leading the protest demanding the benefits like identity cards, fixed working hours and maternity leaves similar to that of permanent government employees.

“The government is insensitive towards the conditions of workers, who are on a hunger strike,” she told reporters.

“I threw bangles at Modi as a mark of protest. I was detained when I threw half a dozen bangles at him again,” she added.

Her fellow activist, Jignesh Mevani, tweeted that Solanki had thrown bangles on Modi’s face because he, during his tenure as the Gujarat chief minister, had not approved a proposal to set Rs45,000 as the minimum wage.

He added that bangles were also thrown at Union Minister Smriti Irani, who went to address a gathering in Amethi, UP on June 12. Irani went there to highlight the achievements of the Modi government.
