Northern Ireland secretary says outlook for a deal between the DUP and Sinn Féin is not positive as November deadline looms

The chances of Northern Ireland’s political parties restoring a power-sharing agreement are “not positive” and talks in the last few days have stalled, the Northern Ireland secretary, James Brokenshire, has said.

He told a parliamentary select committee that a breakthrough between the two main parties, the Democratic Unionist party and Sinn Féin appeared to have been achieved last week but no progress had been made since.
