Meryl Streep condemns Harvey Weinstein over allegations of 'disgraceful' abuse

Oscar-winning actor castigates Weinstein, with whom she had worked on a number of films, but claimed ignorance of his ‘abuse of power’

Meryl Streep has condemned Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein for his alleged sexual harassment of multiple women, calling such behaviour “inexcusable” and describing those who have spoken out against him as “heroes”.

Weinstein was fired by the board of the Weinstein Company on Sunday after learning of new information about his conduct. The producer had been on a leave of absence after the New York Times published a report that detailed acts of alleged harassment towards multiple women, including actors Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd. Weinstein has expressed regret for his past behaviour but denies many of the allegations made against him and has threatened to sue the New York Times.
