Uroos-ul-Bilad takes centre stage at the PITF Expo
KARACHI: The Pakistan International Trade Fair (PITF 2017) was held from October 26 to 29, 2017 at the Karachi Expo Centre. This international fair was graciously concluded with an entertaining Gala Night “Uroos ul Bilaad – Tales of Mystical Beauty” which consisted of a fashion show and a musical concert.
The fashion show displayed Maharaja-themed collections by some of the most-skilled Pakistani designers, such as Deepak Perwani, Wardha Saleem, Humayun Alamgir, Ayesha Ibrahim and Shazia Kiyani.
6 fashion designers to take inspiration from this wedding season
Deepak Perwani’s “Bahaar” focused on the arrival of spring and the festive season of weddings as a huge part of our culture, giving us a glimpse of royalty. On the other hand, “The Mughal Empresses” by Wardha Saleem took us back to the classic era and showcased the secret colours of love, celebration and traditions. Blending bright hues with traditional block printing and intricate embellishments, the “Mughal Empresses” aimed to show that the true spirit of celebration lies within vibrant colours and rich jamawars and organza.
Humayun Alamgir’s “Naqsh-o-Nigar” was inspired by the Maharajas of the sub-continent, crafted with luxurious styles made with velvet and banarsi brocade. The sherwanis portrayed a fusion of sophistication and dynamism with rich colours making it elegantly modern.
This designer is accused of ‘cultural appropriation’
“Mumtaz Mahal” by Shazia Kiyani focused on the life of queen Mumtaz. While sticking to the traditional colour palette of red and gold, Shazia still managed to deliver modern cuts inspired by the Mughal era, rich with eastern culture and classic silhouettes.
“Jashn-e-Aroosi” by Ayesha Ibrahim went rouge with rich patterns in bold and soothing colours for brides who like to make a style statement of their own. The collection displayed a combination of long gowns, angrakhas, short shirts and tail ghararas embellished with Swarovski crystals, French knots and ruby stones on hues of beige, blues and maroons.
The fashion show was then followed by a gala dinner.
