The political administration of Kurram Agency said they are still investigating whether the area was a Pakistani or Afghan territory.
Local sources said that the bombardment continued for some time.
In June, a senior commander of a militant group allied with the Afghan Taliban was killed in a US drone strike in an area on the confluence of borders between Hangu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Orakzai and North Waziristan tribal regions.
Also in March, a suspected missile-firing US drone killed two Afghan Taliban militants in a village near the Afghan border.
